I guess I could give it a try.

Part of the problem is that my google account that the blog is on is connected to my real G+ account (which I don't use), so I would have to use a different google account, I guess I would have to either sign in and out, or use a different browser. Not exactly a pain in the ass, but certainly a mild irritation.Hausdorffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01690401058367596952noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5442584566219442310.post-19958837063201352532013-01-27T15:06:41.144-05:002013-01-27T15:06:41.144-05:00You guys do make some really good points here. If I don't learn quantum mechanics it doesn't really affect anything in my life. Not knowing it doesn't really have any consequences for me. Christianity is different though. As you guys point out, them getting things wrong is disastrous, so maybe it is reasonable for us to expect them to all study it and know it. So maybe if I were to go up to a random Christian and show them a difficult passage in the bible, it is completely reasonable to expect them to find an answer.

I certainly know that when I was a Christian, I pretty much never read the bible. But I did turn out to be a pretty shitty christian in the end :)Hausdorffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01690401058367596952noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5442584566219442310.post-41534303574327450442013-01-26T20:36:30.104-05:002013-01-26T20:36:30.104-05:00Condemning myself with this same statement, I woul...Condemning myself with this same statement, I would say that all Christians should thoroughly study the Bible. Essentially, I only took the spoon-fed message that the pulpit told me. I was a pulpit puppet. (Trademark on "pulpit puppet"!) :-)

But, realistically speaking, this is supposed to be the single most important thing in your life. This is the one thing you absolutely need to get right, because the consequences of not doing so could be eternally disastrous. I think far too many people take their faith too lightly, as Andrew Hall suggests. The jury is still out as to whether or not that neglect is a good thing or a bad thing overall.TWFhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06016277303703254572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5442584566219442310.post-62995283278758173222013-01-26T19:05:24.387-05:002013-01-26T19:05:24.387-05:00Haus should go to Google+, but you, Shel, should h...Haus should go to Google+, but you, Shel, should hit up Twitter.Grundyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07339125862340793733noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5442584566219442310.post-4057550878943121482013-01-26T10:45:57.556-05:002013-01-26T10:45:57.556-05:00Completely unrelated to this post, but you need to...Completely unrelated to this post, but you need to be on Google +. ;)

It will help the blog numbers, and there's a great atheist community there that's always up for a good discussion. If they don't understand it, they need to read more, and learn for themselves instead of moving on and forgetting about it.Sheldon Cooperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17660822618786253558noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5442584566219442310.post-16338691751277421572013-01-26T10:11:27.728-05:002013-01-26T10:11:27.728-05:00If I were to walk up to you and say that I base my...If I were to walk up to you and say that I base my morality on stoicism, but know little to nothing about stoicism, then you would think there is something wrong with me.

And you would be right.

If one says that he or she is a Christian and doesn't know the Bible and chooses not to know the Bible, then they are doing Christianity wrong.
