Seven Woes to the Scribes and Pharisees

Lament over Jerusalem
Jesus says that Jerusalem kills prophets who are sent there. He would have protected the children and they wouldn't let him. He says they won't see him again until they say 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord'
Not much interesting to say about this chapter I'm afraid
I'm not quite sure what the significance of the number seven is, but I recently went through revelation and it's all over the place there too. When Jesus says not to call anyone on earth "father," is this in contrast to "honor thy father and mother." In verse 11, he mentions servants, is this an avocation of slavery? It's interesting how in verse 17 he calls the people fools, but back in chapter 5 he said that calling fools can condemn them to hell fire.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I don't think its fair for him to punish them for the "sins of their fathers." Especially verses 31-35. Blaming them for the "blood of the righeteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah." Those verses have actually been used to justify at various times antisemitism.
I know I'm being a bit nitpicky here. Also, is verse 34-36 another failed prophecy? Unless he is referring to himself, the generation passed, if I am not mistaken nearly two thousand years ago.
I completely missed the sins of the father thing.
