Mech Suits are right around the corner

Given that I don't have time to do a proper post today, I figured I would share a freaking awesome story I saw on 60 minutes a few nights ago. They took this quadriplegic woman and hooked a robotic arm up to her brain and she was able to control it directly. I would say the obvious next step is to put her in a mech freaking cool.

There was also a guy whose arm was amputated who had a robotic arm attached and he was able to control it directly. It actually made me wonder about phantom limb pain. We know that it is possible to use mirror tricks to deal with phantom limb pain, I wonder if you had a robotic arm if it would do the same thing.

Check it out here:

  1. Yeah, I've got one on back-order. :-)

I saw a similar demo on a TED talk. It is really freakin' cool! I can't wait!

  2. That is pretty cool stuff. It is becoming more and more amazing to see what we can do medically.

  3. I really should keep a better eye on ted talks. Seems like they talk about a ton of cool stuff.

  4. Hate to bring religion into this discussion, but science seems to contribute so much more to humanity than religion ever has or will.

  5. Don't speak too soon, for all we know complete mech suits are about to come flying out of the Vatican.
