What RSS reader do you use?

On my first day back I didn't have time to do a bible post, but I did see that google reader is being retired. This is a bummer because it works fine and I have it set up already, now I need to find a new RSS reader. Any one have a suggestion?

While we are talking about these things, what program do you guys use to listen to podcasts? I use google listen, which is apparently also retired. Perhaps it is time to update that as well.

  1. I use Google Reader too, it's a bummer.

For podcasts I use the Android app Pocket Casts or occasionally the Podcast app on my iPad.

  2. I am clearly a tech dinosaur....I don't use a reader and listen to podcasts through the website either on my computer or ipad...in short, I am useless to you.

    1. no RSS reader? Damn, do you just have a set of bookmarks you run through? I used to do things that way, but was very happy when I discovered RSS. It actually reminds me of the difference between channel surfing and having a DVR.

    2. I used to do the RSS feed thing, it's built into my mail client, but over time, it just got easier to go to individual websites every week, I have a set of bookmarks set up, and listen to them there. I used to archive all of the podcasts but realized I'd never listen to them again so I just stopped downloading them and now just stream them every week.

    3. I don't save the files either. It's hard to imagine going back and relistening to things. But I usually download them to my phone when I'm at home on wifi and I listen to them when I'm out and about. Luckily for me, listen still seems to work just fine, I guess until I upgrade my phone

  3. I've heard some people are using the service Feedly (and I think Google was recommending it).

Personally, I just put the blogs that I follow into my blogroll on my blog, the list has gotten so long, I humorously call it the "Blog Buffet" on the homepage of my blog.

    That works for me.

    1. Thanks Sheldon, feedly pulled all of my google reader subscriptions automatically, so that is nice. I figured I would have to manually do all that and was dreading it. This is probably going to be the winner for that reason alone :)

The interface actually seems pretty nice as well. It is of course different, which is reason enough to complain, but I'll probably be used to it in a few days :)

    1. Thanks vjack.

Looks like apple only and I'm on pc, but perhaps an apple user who sees this will have something to go check out :)

    1. Thanks Grundy,

I've been using feedly for about a day now, and I think I'll probably stick with it. There is only one thing about it I don't like so much, it organizes blogs within a folder in alphabetical order. Alternatively I can set it to most recent update order. But in reader I had them in a custom order that I liked better than either of those options.

Oh well, it's a fairly minor complaint, it's pretty nice other than that so far
